Josiane Oliveira, 42 years old, found her calling in thanatopraxy, a profession she discovered after a decade working as a domestic worker. A resident of Japeri, in the interior of Rio de Janeiro, in the southern Fluminense region, she is a mother of two children and dedicates her life to taking care of the “love of someone’s life.”

Thanatopraxy, a practice Josiane embraced with seriousness and empathy, involves the disinfection and preservation of bodies. “The thanatopractor performs preservation treatment to allow for long wakes and air or land transfers. Additionally, we carry out facial restoration on accident victims’ bodies. In other words, we save memories,” she explains with a sensitive look.
Josiane not only practices the profession; she has also become a mentor, choosing to teach others how to work in the field with the same care she demonstrates. For her, the work goes beyond technique; it is an act of love and respect for the memories of the departed and the families left behind.
With an inspiring journey, Josiane Oliveira is an example of how passion for what you do can transform lives and provide comfort in difficult moments. Her commitment to caring for the emotional legacy of the deceased shows the importance of thanatopraxy as an essential service to society.
