It’s tiiiimme! This week, singer Mariah Carey began her annual holiday takeover by kicking off her Merry Christmas One and All tour in Highland, California last night. The festive show will include some of Carey’s biggest hits (including the inescapable track, “All I Want For Christmas Is You”).
“I want my fans to have the merriest Christmas, [and enjoy] being together,” Carey tells Vogue of her new concert. While the iconic chanteuse already debuted a few of her glamorous stage looks on Instagram, there’s one special ensemble that stands out from the pack: Carey enlisted French designer Julie de Libran for a special—and intentional—couture creation.
Carey and Libran’s partnership was masterminded by Carey’s stylist Wilfredo Rosado, who has known Libran for many years. For Carey, she was instantly drawn to working with the designer. “I loved the idea of working with a woman designer,” says Carey, who also wanted to highlight a designer known for their craftwork.
“I admire that Julie makes each piece of clothing in limited edition from archived fabrics, avoiding waste.” Libran was equally inspired to create for Carey. “She creates magic, beauty, and love at this time where I think we all need it,” says Libran. “What she does is so touching, and it speaks to so many people in the world.”
