Could Skid Row Have a Brazilian Vocalist? If It’s Up to Phil Lima, the Answer Is Yes

Brazilian singer enters the global search to become the new frontman of the legendary hard rock band — and already receives public support from international vocalist Eric Martin

The dream of many hard rock fans around the world may soon gain a Brazilian touch. Vocalist Phil Lima has decided to enter the global competition to find the new frontman for the legendary band Skid Row, an initiative carried out in partnership with the company Sweetwater.

A declared fan of the group since his youth, Phil announced his official candidacy for the worldwide audition that will select the band’s next voice. “If you’re a rock fan and grew up listening to and admiring Skid Row, you know there’s a global audition to take over the vocals of this legendary band. It’s a small chance, but there’s no way I could let it pass,” the singer commented.

With more than 12 years of experience as a professional vocalist, Phil has already begun showing what he can deliver. In a teaser video he posted, he performs parts of a one-take recording of the classic “18 and Life,” along with a cappella snippets of his practice sessions for recording “Monkey Business.” The video also features a lighthearted moment acted out with his girlfriend, Jade, revealing his humorous side in front of the camera.

The post caught the attention of fans and musicians alike — including renowned singer Eric Martin, known for his work with the band Mr. Big, who commented on the official post showing support and encouragement for the Brazilian singer’s initiative. Guitarist Rafael Bittencourt, founding member of Angra, also left a supportive message (https://www.instagram.com/p/DVpatIAjJng/?igsh=NnV5NWM2NmR1aHdx).

“Phil, I’ve known you for some time and I can say you’re one of the nicest guys on the planet and an incredible vocal coach (who has helped me immensely). But seeing how your heart and soul beat for Skid Row’s rock ’n’ roll, you’re someone I support for this position… you already have the vocal chops — you’re going to crush it, kid!” (Eric Martin)

The initiative is part of the campaign #SkidRowNextChapter, which aims to find the next voice to write a new chapter in the band’s history.
If he advances in the process, Phil Lima could become a rare Brazilian representative at the front of one of the most iconic names in global hard rock — something that would certainly draw the attention of the international rock community.
