From Funeral Homes to Motels: “Vim Te Mostrar” Channel Gains Fame by Tackling Taboo Topics

Journalist Heberton Lopes Presents Reports on Unconventional Topics and Expands His Social Media Presence

The journalist from Minas Gerais, Heberton Lopes, has stood out with a unique approach to topics considered taboo by society. Initially known as the “death reporter” due to his coverage of the funeral industry, this communication professional has demonstrated versatility, exploring a wide range of controversial and fascinating subjects on his YouTube channel, “Vim te Mostrar.” With success on the video platform, Heberton was invited to return to television and is now the director and reporter of the André Show, broadcast on TV Band Minas. He also hosts the segment “Bastidores da Mineração,” which recently debuted as part of the TV program he directs.

Launched in March 2020, at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the channel quickly evolved from a hobby into a successful venture. Today, “Vim te Mostrar” boasts over 235,000 subscribers on YouTube and a significant presence on other platforms. On Kwai, he has amassed over 87,000 followers, while on TikTok, he surpasses 132,000. His Facebook following is strong, with over 49,000 followers, and on Instagram, although smaller, he has over 5,500 followers.

What makes “Vim te Mostrar” so captivating, according to Heberton Lopes, is his willingness to tackle subjects that many shy away from. “Although we gained notoriety with our ‘death reports,’ we don’t limit ourselves to that niche. Among the more than 290 videos available, viewers can find a surprising variety of topics. If there’s curiosity, we’ll record it,” jokes the journalist.

The curiosity-driven channel has explored behind-the-scenes looks at motels, offering an unprecedented view of what goes on behind closed doors while clients enjoy the services. The “Vim te Mostrar” team has also ventured into cutting-edge medicine, presenting reports on robotic surgeries and exploring the latest technological innovations in healthcare.

The channel hasn’t shied away from history either, visiting an old sanatorium and a leper colony, shedding light on the legacy of these places. Curiosity also led Heberton and his team to the circus backstage, revealing the magic and hard work behind the performances that captivate audiences of all ages. But it doesn’t stop there: in search of extreme experiences, the journalist has placed himself in challenging situations, such as hang-gliding and participating in a shamanic ritual where he experienced ayahuasca, rapé, and sananga.

Another highlight of “Vim te Mostrar” was covering the Day of the Dead in Mexico. Heberton traveled to the country to document the local culture, immersing himself in the customs, attending cemetery celebrations, eating grasshoppers, and even being startled by an earthquake warning.

The success of “Vim te Mostrar” has not gone unnoticed. About two years ago, Heberton was invited to return to television, taking on roles as director and reporter for the André Show on TV Band Minas, in addition to hosting the “Bastidores da Mineração” segment on the same program.

“Vim te Mostrar” by the numbers:
• YouTube: 235k+ subscribers
• TikTok: 132k+ followers
• Kwai: 87k+ followers
• Facebook: 49k+ followers
• Instagram: 5.5k+ followers

“When I started the channel, I never imagined it would go this far. The audience’s positive reception to unusual topics motivated me to continue exploring subjects many consider taboo. I realized there was a demand for content that approached these issues respectfully and journalistically,” said the communicator.

The journalist attributes part of the channel’s success to the direct, non-sensationalist approach he takes with his reports. “Whether discussing body preparation for funerals or exploring a motel’s behind-the-scenes, I always strive to treat these topics with respect and professionalism. I believe it’s this seriousness that attracts the audience, even when the subject might seem controversial at first glance,” he explains.

Expanding to other social media platforms has allowed “Vim te Mostrar” to reach an even larger and more diverse audience. “Each platform has its unique characteristics, and adapting the content for different formats has been a stimulating challenge,” says the journalist.

Looking ahead, Heberton plans to continue exploring unconventional topics on “Vim te Mostrar,” always seeking new ways to present relevant and curious information to his audience. “Journalism has the power to shed light on aspects of life that often go unnoticed or are deliberately ignored. My goal is to keep doing that, bringing forth stories and information that can educate, entertain, and perhaps even change perspectives,” he stated.

With nearly 300 videos available, “Vim te Mostrar” now includes other journalists on the content production team, along with a videographer, video editors, a journalism intern, and a marketing manager. Weekly reports are posted on Sundays, and every Wednesday, the live interview show “Vim te Mostrar Ao Vivo” is broadcast directly from the channel’s studio in Belo Horizonte.
